East Midlands Performance Platform

 June 2012

For contemporary performance/ Live Art based in the East Midlands

Circuit is a platform for new, emerging and current contemporary performance/Live Art practitioners, based in the East Midlands, to be held at De Montfort University, Leicester.

Seen as an opportunity for regional practitioners to show work and gain information and advice, this follows a pilot circuit in 2011 which also offered a supportive framework in which to network. Many of the artists gained bookings, including performances and residencies, as a direct result of their participation. They have also been continuing to network with one another resulting in several collaborations

There are two parts to circuit 2012:

On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd April, preceding the public event in June, eight selected artists have an opportunity to develop their work in De Montfort University’s dedicated performance studios in the PACE building, a purpose built complex of four studios with other smaller spaces available, as well as external possibilities. There will be two mentors, Traci Kelly (hancockandkellylive) and Rosie Garton (Zoo Indigo) who will offer advice and feedback alongside the peer artists selected.

Then, held over two days, on Saturday 16th June the artists will show performance works in an event open to the public. On Sunday 17th June the artists will receive feedback in an open session in the morning. The afternoon consists of information and advice sessions from a range of professionals and organisations, followed by a social evening of networking. [Friday 15th June will be a set-up day].

All performances and advice sessions are free and open to all, not only those selected to show work.

The selection of participant performers will be made by a small team of lecturers and associated artists. If selected, you will receive £200 towards costs incurred by your participation

Confirmed contributors to the June feedback/advice/information sessions are: Traci Kelly (Artist/hancockandkellylive), Michael Pinchbeck (Artist/Hatch), Rosie Garton (Artist/Zoo Indigo), Michaela Butter (Embrace Arts), Andrew Mitchelson (Live Art Development Agency) and Shona Powell (Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham)
